Kid’s Dentistry

Your child’s baby teeth are essential to the function of their smile and help guide their permanent teeth into place. At Pike District Smiles, we help you care for your child’s smile with comprehensive pediatric dental care in Rockville.

Have you taken your child to the paediatric dentist yet? The dentist can be a scary new experience for children, so the sooner you allow them to get used to it, the better. We recommend children come in for their first dentist appointment no later than their third birthday.

“My toddler had gotten scared when it comes to dentists.
Dr. Samia was patient and caring with my daughter. Things went very smoothly… better than I expected. Highly recommend!”

– MAYRA VERA

What Happens During the First Visit?

Your child’s first dental visit will be relatively short. We may ask you to sit in the dental chair and hold your child while Dr. Nikkhah gently examines your child’s teeth and gums.

Our staff may recommend x-rays be taken to check for tooth decay and identify any issues with the permanent teeth that are forming underneath the gums.

We may also clean your child’s teeth and apply topical fluoride to protect against decay. We’ll ask questions about your child’s fluoride exposure at home to be sure they’re getting the proper amount.

Perhaps most importantly, we review with you and your child how to properly care for their teeth at home to prevent tooth decay.

For all these amazing services from our best Paediatric dentist do visit Pike District Smiles.

How to Prepare Your Child for Their Dental Visit

To help your child feel more at ease visiting the dentist, you can bring your child in for a “sneak peek” of our office in North Bethesda. At home, you can read books with them about going to the dentist and go over what Dr. Nikkhah will be doing during their appointment, including:

  • Examining their mouth, teeth and gums
  • Checking if they need fluoride
  • Teaching them about cleaning their smiles
  • Suggesting a schedule for regular dental visits

If you and your child come in to visit our office before your actual appointment, we can answer any questions during this time as well.

Preventative Care for Your Child

At Pike District Smiles, we’re invested in preventative oral care for your child. Cavities are often the result of a diet high in sugary foods and a lack of oral care, so we recommend limiting sugar and help you identify ways you can maintain your child’s oral health.

We may also recommend dental sealants to protect your child’s teeth from decay. Dental sealants are a plastic material that’s bonded to the chewing surfaces of your child’s back teeth, which are more prone to decay due to their deep grooves where bacteria like to hide.

Your child’s baby teeth are essential for speaking, biting, chewing and their self-confidence. You can help them maintain a healthy diet and excellent home care habits with the support of Dr. Nikkhah and our team at Pike District Smiles.
